The Best Free iPhone Apps For People On The Go

February 20, 2014 By Daryl McFarlane

Free iPhone apps for people on the goPeople pay quite a sum of money to have their hands on one of the most coveted mobile phones of the century, the iPhone. Because each unit costs quite a lot, you may need to stock up on a few free apps and give your wallet some time to recover.

Smartphones these days are so much more than just something you use to call your friends. They often end up becoming a companion that you spend a lot of your time on the go with.

Here are some of the best free iPhone apps:

iBooks

First on the list of the best free iPhone apps is iBooks. There are many book readers available for both Android and iOS, but iBooks is something iOS can call its own. Download from a wide range of ebooks from the iBookstore. Browse your collection organized by title, by author, or by any category you can come up with. Personalize and choose from font sizes and font faces. Keep your bookmarks and notes that can be synchronized with your other Apple gadgets. Enjoy the elegant turning of pages while immersing yourself into the author’s world. Truly, nothing can beat reading from actual physical books, but the iBooks experience certainly can compete.

Dragon Dictation

Save time, energy, and effort on typing messages, making reminders and notes, updating your Facebook status, or sending tweets. All you need is your voice. Dragon Dictation does the job, and it does well in many languages.

Scan Pages

Take photos and automatically combine them together to create PDF documents. Moreover, they can be stored in GoogleDocs, Evernote, Dropbox, or sent via electronic mail. This is a handy function to have on a mobile device; I know a whole bunch of people that wouldn’t have a clue how to do this on their desktop computer!

Words With Friends

It is like the classic Scrabble game except you can play with a random person from the opposite part of the world. Sometime when you’re always on the go or travelling, finding your real friends can be difficult.

RunKeeper

Running remains to be the best form of exercise, and you can keep track of your running routine with RunKeeper. See how far you have run, how long it took you to reach that distance, the measurement of your speed, the calories you burned, and the path you travelled on the map. You can also sync your data with a website and see the history of your progress. You can also share your activities via the various social networking sites. Fitness apps and gadgets are all the craze these days, so there is certainly no shortage of competitors for this kind of app.

Epicurious

Gain access to thousands of recipes, save your favorites, and share them via email, Twitter, Facebook, and many others.

Snapseed

Probably the most powerful photo editor on iOS, Snapseed was once a paid app but is now officially free. Enjoy a number of filters and many effects and functions to enhance your photos to the fullest. Moreover, it supports a variety of languages, and you can share your photos online. Snapseed is among the best photo apps and deserves its ranking in the app store.

Evernote

Save and organize your thoughts whether typed, photographed, or recorded. Plus, they are easy to search for and sync with your Mac. I have found after discussing Evernote between various levels of users, that it seems to be a bit of an acquired taste. Some people love it and some don’t. Give it a try and see what you think.

Dictionary

Look for the meaning of unfamiliar words without the need for Internet connection. It also offers synonyms, antonyms, audio pronunciations, voice-to-text search and a whole lot more. Great for finding out what the hell that guy just said to you in that meeting!

Bump

Share everything! Photos, applications, music, contacts, etc. by just bumping two iPhones together. Isn’t that smooth and awesome? This is exclusively for Apple products, and that is what makes it among the best free iPhone apps.

Wikipanion

Make your Wikipedia experience on your iPhone easy, organized and systematic with Wikipanion. Another app that may invoke a love/hate relationship. Some people swear by Wikipedia and others curse every time it pops up in the search results, taking up space that could be used by trusted content.

There are thousands of free apps available and it can be hard to filter through all the trash, so hopefully this helped you out a little.
